In 2010, he returned to Sam Houston State University to join their internship program. He served on staff for 2 years before moving to New Mexico in 2012. In 2013, Alex and his wife, Abby, pioneered a team to establish Chi Alpha at New Mexico State University.

In 2018, Alex accepted the role of National Training Director for Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. The mission of the National Training Director is to cultivate a common culture across uncommon campuses. Alex and Abby relocated to Springfield, Missouri in October 2018 to serve out of the National Chi Alpha Ministry Center.
